Good results in the new collective bargaining agreement

The renewal of the International School of Luxembourg (ISL) Employees’ collective bargaining agreement was signed yesterday, after more than one year of negotiation.

Under the auspices of OGBL, the trade unions OGBL and LCGB and the Human Resource Committee of the ISL Board of Govenors worked round to the following results:

From September 1st 2011 the 181 ISL-employees included in the CBA will benefit from:
  • a flat monthly increase to all steps of the salary scales for the professional staff, nurses and teaching assistants of 80€ (between 1,12% and 3,77% increase),
  • a new salary scale for the administrative staff (between 2,05% and 7,20% increase),
  • the introduction of a salary scale for the technical staff,
  • a one-time payment of 1.000€,
  • one year more credit given for previous experience for professional staff members entering the school,
  • an increase of several allowances for overseas recruited professional staff,
  • an increase of the extra-curricular activity stipends and per diem allowances,
  • a guaranty for emergency leave and a well-defined procedure to avoid, and in case of, sexual or moral harassment.

Teachers’ and other professional staff’s working time was defined in a clearer way.

The additional leave time for professional staff, beyond the legal entitlement over the time frame from 1 August to 31 July each year, will be:
2011-2012 = 41 days
2012-2013 = 40 days
The additional leave time varies due a leap year and the irregular number of weekend days. The number of working days however remains the same each year.

The new agreement has a term of two years, effective 1 September 2010 until 31 August 2012.
The negotiation took place in a hard but fair climate.

The agreement was negotiated by the representatives of the Board of Governors and Danièle Nieles, general secretary SEW/OGBL, the delegates Anne-Marie Berny, Matthew Dwyer, Elizabeth Scott, Walt Lilyblad, Geoffrey Jenkins (OGBL) as well as Alexandra Bertemes, union secretary LCGB, Luc Kouba, Francine Philips, Heng Schreiner, Joanne Cordner (LCGB).
